As the name suggests, the Seaspray vineyard is situated on the coast of Marlborough's Awatere valley. This beautiful and sometimes harsh location is characterised by a mix of stony and sandy soils and coastal winds that bring cool night time temperatures. The influence of the unique growing conditions are intensely expressed through this wine with distinctive aromas of kaffir lime, grilled capsicum and freshly picked culinary herbs. Briny seashell characters and lively acidity flow through the palate.
The Marlborough growing season started off well with very little frost pressure during spring. The growing season provided us with healthy soil moisture levels, with vine canopies lush and vibrant. The start of 2023 summer was mild; February was below the long-term average in temperature. This resulted in thick grape skins that provided ample flavour. The weather settled over harvest and delivered a beautiful, dry and warm Indian summer.
Seaspray Vineyard lies against the rugged eastern coastline of the Awatere Valley where the fresh ocean air slows the growing season to develop Sauvignon Blanc of incredible power and concentration. The vines are still young, so we expect the wines intensity to only increase as the vineyard reaches maturity.

Flavours of kaffir lime, capsicum and freshly picked culinary herbs represent the cooler windy coastal Awatere sub region in Marlborough where these young Sauvignon Blanc vines struggle to grow in the sandy river gravel soil.
